Privacy

What we collect

When you submit your rate, we collect: work category, specialization, experience level, region, rate type, rate amount, and email address. Email is used solely for duplicate prevention and is never displayed publicly.

How we use your data

Your submission is used to generate anonymized, aggregate benchmark statistics. Only aggregate data (medians, percentiles, distributions across groups) is ever displayed. Individual submissions are never shown, sold, shared with third parties, or used for any purpose other than generating benchmarks.

What we never do

API responses

Our API returns only aggregate benchmark data (percentiles, statistics, histograms). Personal information such as email addresses, referral codes, and submission source metadata is stripped from all API responses before they leave the server.

Contact form

Contact form submissions are processed by Formspree (formspree.io). Messages are forwarded to our email and are not stored beyond Formspree's standard retention.

Browser storage

Some tools (such as the invoice generator) store form data locally in your browser using localStorage and sessionStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you sign in and choose to sync. Invoice drafts are stored in sessionStorage and are cleared when you close the tab. Business defaults (your name and address) are stored in localStorage for convenience across sessions. You can delete all locally stored invoice data at any time using the "Clear saved data" button in the invoice tool.

Accounts (optional)

You may optionally create an account using your email. Accounts use passwordless sign-in (a one-time code sent to your email). Creating an account lets you save tool data across devices. All features work without an account.

If you create an account, we store your email and any tool data you save. You can export all your data or delete your account at any time from the Account page. Account deletion is processed within 30 days. IndieIndex does not sell or share personal data with third parties. All benchmark data is anonymized and aggregated.

Infrastructure

IndieIndex is hosted on Vercel and uses Supabase (PostgreSQL) for data storage. Both services have their own privacy and security policies. We do not use third-party analytics services that track individual users.
